 In 1984, the local children and youth services unit of Social & Rehabilitation Services of Kansas (SRS) and Reno County law enforcement officers saw close to a 100% increase in confirmed reports of child sexual abuse and most of that increase could be traced back to PSAP presentations in the classrooms. Another success of the program has been the opportunity for victims of child sexual abuse to receive counseling, thus reducing the number of victims who become promiscuous, runaway, break laws, get involved in drugs/alcohol or choose abusive relationships as adults. In 2005, there were 135 sexual assault evaluations in Reno County concerning children who were suspected of being assaulted and 58 of those evaluations were confirmed, resulting in both victims and offenders getting help.
